Setting the wheels in motion across the UK

Our focus

  • We are building on a successful legacy – our businesses have been named Train Operator of the Year on six separate occasions, Passenger Operator of the Year and we’re proud to consistently deliver the highest reliability and punctuality across UK rail. Over two decades, we have proved ourselves to be a trustworthy partner, building up unparalleled expertise across the UK.

Our management team are some of the most experienced leaders in the industry. Our staff, partners and passengers are at the heart of everything we do so we ensure accessibility, training and community are within the operational plans of each of our businesses.

We are well known for introducing new cutting edge trains into all of our UK rail franchises and for having created one of the largest fleets of electric buses and bus charging depots in the UK. We also have an impressive record for attracting investment and bringing in new national and international partners into the UK public transport industry.

Transport UK plays a key role in enhancing and protecting the communities we serve, including adopting initiatives which have helped reduce emissions by 17% year on year.

  • Transport UK delivers essential rail and bus services that millions of people across the country rely upon daily for work and leisure. Our broader contribution to the UK economy includes the highly skilled staff we employ directly, our supply chain partners, and the significant investments we make each year in new trains, buses and infrastructure.

Having a small, UK-focused, management team allows us to work in close partnership with government, local authorities, industry stakeholders and technology providers as we look for ways to continually raise standards in areas such as safety, punctuality, accessibility, value for money, and quality. Privately owned, we have full licence to invest in the UK’s future transport needs unhindered by competing stakeholder interests or other barriers which our competitors face.

Operating some of the most highly rated train and bus services in the UK is only possible through the hard work of our 15,000 employees, and our focus on delivering the best possible service for the passengers and communities we serve.

In addition to procuring new trains and buses, we are investing significant resources to improve the passenger experience of those using our services.

  • Transport UK’s leadership team understands the important role transport networks and infrastructure play in connecting communities and society, as well as enabling mobility.

We are driving environmental progress through a comprehensive carbon reduction plan which will make us a net zero-carbon business by 2038. We are leading industry efforts in areas including electrifying the rail network, expanding the use of zero and low emission buses and utilising smart energy management technology across our stations.

We want to play a leading role in creating a fully integrated public transport system which provides effective, sustainable end-to-end services for our passengers. Our focus on passengers and their evolving needs is the reason we provide free Wi-Fi and charging points on our vehicles. We are also working with telecoms providers to install 5G masts along key routes, providing both our passengers and local communities with enhanced connectivity.

To better serve passengers and the broader community, we partner with commissioning bodies, local councils and metro mayors to integrate our train and bus services with the broader transport network and make it as easy as possible for people to use public transport as part of their daily lives.

We are often engaged by governments and public bodies around the world for our renowned expertise operating efficient and modern transport systems.

The TransportWorks team are thought leaders, driven by the belief that clean, integrated public transport delivers a sustainable future for the planet and help communities to thrive.

They build close partnerships with transport organisations to improve the efficiency and productivity of their networks, so we can all travel better.

We are currently applying our expertise gained in the demanding UK market to advise on some of the world’s most ground-breaking integrated transport projects across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
