Transport UK Statement

It has been confirmed that the fatality from the recent tragic incident is our colleague, an EMR driver. All of us at Transport UK wish to express our deepest condolences to the deceased's family, loved ones and friends.

We would like to thank the emergency services and all of our teams on the ground for their ongoing work. Once those who remain in need have been helped, we will work intensively with the Rail Accident Investigation Branch and all relevant authorities to identify the causes and ensure it cannot happen again.

Will Rogers, Managing Director of EMR said: “The 16:40 EMR service from Corby to London St Pancras has been involved in a collision with the 15:50 Nottingham to London St Pancras at Bedford South.

“We are deeply saddened to confirm that this incident has resulted in the fatality of an EMR Driver and a number of injuries to passengers on board. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of our colleague who has died, and with all those affected by this tragic event.

“We are currently on the scene and working closely with Network Rail and the emergency services to support those involved and assist with the ongoing response. Once those directly impacted have been helped, we will make every effort to ascertain the cause in cooperation with the Rail Accident Investigation Branch."
